Squirrel Removal in Shreveport
Squirrels in an attic gnaw constantly, and wiring is among the things they gnaw.
Mature pines and magnolias overhanging 1950s Broadmoor rooflines are why squirrels are the most common attic call in that half of the city. A squirrel that reaches a roof by branch never touches the ground, and never meets anything that would stop it.
Squirrels in Caddo Parish: who does what
The City of Shreveport publishes a short list of what it does not do, and it is unusually blunt: it does not pick up stray animals, does not spray for mosquitoes and does not supply rat poison. All of it goes to Caddo Parish Animal Services instead, and Caddo handles dogs and cats. Nothing in either remit covers an animal that has moved into a roof, so a squirrel in the eaves is a private expense from the first phone call.
For identifying an animal or damage before anyone is paid to look, the LSU AgCenter, Caddo Parish office is at 2408 East 70th Street, Shreveport, LA 71105 (office page).
What Louisiana law says about squirrels
Squirrels are game animals in Louisiana (season from the first Saturday in October to the last day of February, plus a spring season in May). A nuisance squirrel may be live-trapped and relocated without a permit if the owner of the release property gives written permission and it is released within 12 hours. All Louisiana rules →

Signs, and why they matter
- Fast, light scampering in the attic or wall: loudest at dawn and again before dusk
- Scratching and persistent gnawing sounds
- A neat, round hole chewed through fascia, trim or a gable vent
- Chewed electrical wiring, which is a genuine and documented cause of house fires
- Chewed plumbing lines and irrigation tubing
How removal works
One-way exclusion doors let squirrels leave and stop them returning, followed by sealing every gnawed opening with steel or hardware cloth. Wood alone gets chewed through again within weeks.
Squirrel questions
How much does squirrel removal cost in Shreveport?
$300 โ $550 typical, depending on access and whether young are present. After a long stay in an attic the cleanup is often the bigger bill (attic restoration).
Is there a wrong time of year to deal with squirrels?
Two litters a year, typically late winter and again in late summer, so there are two seasons where young may be present and unable to leave.
